What is CBD and Can Christians Use It?

Cannabidiol, commonly known as CBD oil, is a natural product from the cannabis plant; however, it does not contain tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which is the psychoactive element in marijuana. Many Christians will tell you they have read reviews like the Cbdistillery tincture review and jumped onto the CBD bandwagon faster than two sheep onto Noah’s ark. Although it is known that CBD does not contain THC, is it acceptable for Christians?

What is CBD?

CBD is a chemical found in cannabis plants. It has been linked to various health benefits such as treatment of anxiety, depression, epilepsy, and high blood pressure, among other many conditions. It is also used as a pain reliever. CBD oil does not contain THC and thus cannot be harmful to humans.

Nevertheless, its use has been associated with some side effects such as headache, insomnia, nausea, and fatigue. It comes in various forms, such as capsules, vapors, and oils. Epidiolex is the only approved CBD product by the FDA.

What does the bible say about CBD and can Christians use it?

The bible is not specific about the CBD because it was not available in ancient times when the bible was written. Although it is a product that became common in 1963, the bible could address some controversial issues about CBD.

Ephesians 5:8 states that humans should not take substances that affect their mind. This is because it impairs spiritual judgments or leads them in sins due to poor decision making.

CBD should not contain any THC that affects the mind; however, the CBD products are highly unregulated, and substandard CBD oil could find its way to the market.

Epidiolex is approved by the FDA and thus regulated, but can Christians use it?

Consciousness should be the guiding factor here.

In Romans 14, Paul was faced with the dilemma of consciousness when people thought that meat sold by pagans in their temple could pass demonic spirits to them. Others thought the meat was just an innocuous item and could not cause spiritual harm.

Paul knew that none of the above views were right; however, he advised Christians to be cautious, especially when taking this meat around others. If a believer were in the presence of someone who believed that meat causes spiritual harm, then it would be wise to avoid eating the meat in front of them since it will affect their mind. Paul meant that if you believe the meat does not cause harm, but there is a person in your company who thinks they will be harmed, then you do not intentionally take the meat in their presence.

The biblical view applies to CBD oil. Some people believe cannabis or any cannabis products as evil, and taking them is a sin. Others believe that as long as they don’t affect someone’s judgment, they are good and can be taken. In this case, people who think that Christians can take CBD oil with any effects on their spiritual wellbeing, then they should not consider them in the presence of those who believe CBD is evil, and it is a sin to take them.
